Impact Design

Upon my return to Calvin Klein in 2018, I had a personal goal to change the design process to include impact with the ultimate goal of circularity.

I quickly empowered, challenged, and inspired my dedicated denim team to conserve our precious resource: fresh water. Within a year, we were able to save approximately 4 liters of fresh water per pair of denim jeans, easily saving millions of liters annually.

After demonstrating that we could design with impact and increase profits, I believed that we could leverage the brand to rapidly move the industry towards more sustainable practices in all categories.

Over the next few years, we saved tens of millions of liters of fresh water while dramatically expanding the denim business. Our guiding principles were to:

design for impact,

significantly grow the business,

and always keep people (and the planet) at the center."
